PRINCETON, N.J. - Brown women's soccer swept the Ivy League weekly awards, as Jael-Marie Guy won Offensive Player of the week, and Brooke Birtwistle was awarded Defensive Player of the Week.
First-year forward Jael Marie-Guy scored her first collegiate goal on Thursday night when Brown hosted Northeastern. Guy's goal came in the 74th minute of the contest sealing Northeastern's fate, pushing the Bears past the Huskies 2-0. She lifted the ball under the crossbar from inside the six-yard box with a nifty touch to score over Northeastern goalkeeper, Eliza Teplow's head. Guy scored in her second-straight game again against 17th-ranked Wake Forest on Sunday afternoon. Guy found the back of the net in the 67th minute, bending a shot from outside the box into the top left corner to take a 1-0 lead at the time.
Sophomore defender Brooke Birtwistle recorded two shots against Northeastern, in a game where the Bears allowed just two shots on goal. Against 17th-ranked Wake Forest, Birtwistle was a physical presence defensively, allowing just three shots on goal. Birtwistle also took multiple free kicks near midfield, delivering balls into the 18-yard box to create scoring chances for Brown.
The Bears host Hofstra on Thursday, Sept. 11. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
