
Cross Country Opens 2025 Season at Friar XC Invitational

ATTLEBORO, Mass. - The Brown cross country programs began their 2025 season at the Friar Cross Country Invitational at Highland Park on Friday. The men finished in sixth place and women finished fourth in their respective meets. Freshman Duncan Frisbie-Smith led the men's side finishing 23rd overall and freshman Haley Kavanagh led the women's side finishing fourth.
Northeastern prevailed victorious in the men's 6K race, finishing with 58 points. Dartmouth and Boston University both tied with 59 points. Rhode Island (78), Providence (80), and Brown (164) filled out the back half of the meet.
In the men's race, Frisbie-Smith finished 23rd with a time of 19:10.01, followed by freshman Will Smitas who finished 30th with a time of 19:30.67. Jason Markopoulos (39th/19:47.58), Nick Strayer (44th/20:05.97), and Kit Jackson (55th/20:35.40) secured points for the Bears, while Dermot Maloney placed sixth on the team (56th/20:48.99).
In the women's 4K race, Providence had a dominant performance scoring 20 points on the day. Boston University finished second with 46 points, Dartmouth (81) finished third and Brown (83) finished fourth.
Kavanagh finished fourth overall with a time of 14:40.39. Sophomore Ariana Thiel-Hadjilambrinos finished 15th overall with a 15:14.55 time. Charlotte Murphy (21st/15:22.63), Sanam Rangaraj (27th/15:43.98), and Olivia Bergin (28th/15:47.58) tallied points for the Bears. Maxine Paul-Emile (35th/16:22.05), Caroline McCool (38th/16:42.42), Sara Perez, Eve Siff-Scherr, Kata Clark, and Julia Soderbery rounded out the rest of the Brown women's runners.
The Bears will return to action on Saturday, September 20th, at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational at 10 a.m.
