
Ahuja Takes First Place, Cross Country Shines at UMass Dartmouth Invitational

DARTMOUTH, Mass - The Brown cross country programs dominated in both races on Saturday at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational in Dartmouth, Mass. The men finished in third place and the women finished second in their respective meets. Junior Sebastian Margetts led the men's side finishing fifth and senior Nimrit Ahuja finished first overall by a commanding 12 seconds in the women's race.
Boston University claimed first in the men's 8K race, finishing with 60 points, UMass Lowell finished second with 98 points, as Brown followed behind taking third with 104 points. Holy Cross (119) and Stonehill (130) finished out the remaining top five.
In the men's race, Margetts finished fifth with a time of 24:30.0 which ranks as the 23rd fastest 8K time in school history. Junior Matt Wing finished second on the team and 10th overall with a time of 24:50.9. Sophomore Luke Bodden (18th/25:06.8), freshman Duncan Frisbie-Smith (28th/25:21.9), freshman Will Smitas (43rd/25:39.8), senior John Farrell (44th/25:45.9), and senior Jason Markopoulos (58th/26.02.0) secured points for the Bears.
In the women's 6K race, Boston University finished first with 35 points, while Brown claimed second with 68 points. UMass Lowell (130), Connecticut College (157), and Holy Cross (179) finished in the top five of the women's race.
Ahuja finished first overall in the women's race with a time of 21:03.8 which ranks as the 17th fastest 6K time in school history. Senior Julia Schriefer finished second on the team and sixth overall with a time of 21:40.9. Freshman Haley Kavanagh (8th/21:44.8), freshman Charlotte Murphy (21st/22:08.3), sophomore Ariana Thiel-Hadjilambrinos (38th/22:39.3), senior Olivia Bergin (59th/23:01.5), and sophomore Sanam Rangaraj (78th/23:23.6) secured points for the Bears.
The Bears will return to action on Friday, October 3rd, at the Paul Short Run at 9 a.m.
