7/28/2025 5:46:00 PM | Men's Crew, Women's Crew
POZNAN, POLAND - The U23 Rowing World Championships wrapped up yesterday with six members of the Brown men's and women's crew programs competing on the international stage. All of the athletes in attendance represented their countries and school well, showcasing the immense talent that their supporters can look forward to watching on the Seekonk River next spring.Â
The men's program had five athletes on the world stage, starting with Elenna Seguin and Davis Kelly, both representing Team USA. Seguin, who coxed the Varsity Eight crew for the entirety of the 2024-25 season, coxed the Men's 8+ crew to a fifth place finish in the A Final with a time of 05:36.95. Kelly, who also spent most of last season rowing with the V8, stroked the Team USA quadruple sculls to a fourth place finish in the B Final, placing tenth overall.Â
Isaac Thurnham and Jack Cadwallader, two staples of the Varsity Eight crew last season, represented Team Great Britain on the international stage, with Thurnham racing in the starting lineup for the Men's 4- crew and Cadwallader starting for the Men's 2x crew. With the help of Isaac and Jack, Great Britain took home a fourth place finish in the Men's 4- A Final with a time of 05:53.57 and a fourth place finish in the Men's 2x C Final (16th overall) with a time of 06:27.15. Thurnham's fourth place finish ties former teammate Oliver Page-Kuhr '25 (Team Canada) for the best finish at the U23 Rowing World Championships in the last two seasons, with Page-Kuhr helping Canada's Men's 8+ to the same result in St. Catharines, Canada last year. Â
Incoming freshman Luca Cassina rowed with Team Italy's Men's 8+ crew en route to a sixth place finish in the A Final with a time of 05:46.14. On the women's side, Summer Balla-Kellett, who coxed the women's Varsity Eight crew for the entirety of the 2024-25 season, coxed Team Australia's Women's 8+ crew to a second place finish in the B Final (eighth overall) with a time of 06:28.98. This is the second year in a row that Balla-Kellett has coxed Australia's Women's 8+ crew at the U23 Rowing World Championships, helping her country finish in fourth place in the A Final of last year's event in St. Catharines, Canada.Â
