No. 4 Men's Crew Wraps Up Competition Against Princeton
5/3/2025 3:34:00 PM | Men's Crew
PRINCETON, N.J. - Brown men's crew made the trip to Lake Carnegie this weekend to face off against the Princeton Tigers and found themselves in the closest race of the season.
"The racing at Princeton was intense and fast. Our squad performed well across all the crews," said Men's Crew Head Coaching Chair Paul Cooke '88. "The solid victories in the Secod Varsity, Third Varsity and Fifth Varsity were big steps forward in getting our team ready for the Championship Season."
The Bears V8, stroked by David Person and coxed by Elenna Seguin, crossed the finish line in 5:21.3, trailing the Tigers by only 0.5 seconds. With this win, Princeton keeps the Content Cup in New Jersey for the third consecutive season and moves to 16-14 all-time in the series.Â
"We lost a very tight race in the Varsity 8," said Cooke. "We held the advantage for almost the whole course and Princeton had a great sprint. Both crews beat the course record. It's going to take a lot to rebound and regroup and get ready for the Eastern Sprints, but this group responds really well to challenges and I know they are going to step up."
The 2V8, stroked by Isaac Hillicks-Tulip and coxed by Lizzie Mitchell, picked up their fifth first place finish on the season by posting a final time of 5:34.1. The 3V8, stroked by Sean Egan and coxed by Jack Mershon, recorded win number three on the season when they crossed the finish line in 5:35.2.Â
The 4V8, stroked by Adam von Bismarck and coxed by Vijay Ramakrishnan, raced for the first time since Mar. 29 at the Sarasota Invitational and posted a final time of 5:51.1. The 5V8, stroked by Stefan von der Goltz and coxed by Will Bennett, raced for the first time this season and picked up a victory after crossing the finish line 5:51.2.
"The team as a whole has been developing really well," said Cooke. "Our squad is adapting and improving. We are seeing athletes get healthier, stronger and fitter. I continue to be impressed daily by the work being done by our coaching staff. Rufus Biggs and Scott Cockle have been doing terrific work."
The Bears head back to Providence to prepare for the Eastern Sprints, which take place on May 18 in Worcester, Massachusetts. Â
