PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Brown women's lacrosse head coach Katrina Dowd has been appointed the head coach of the Australian Women's Lacrosse Sixes Program for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
"My vision for this national team will be built on creating an excellent brand of lacrosse and pursuing the Olympic dream with passion, hard work and dedication." Dowd said in the official release.
Dowd has led the Bears to new heights in her first two seasons at the helm. In her first season in 2024, the Bears broke 11 program records and tied the single season program record with 10 victories.
This past season, Dowd led Brown to its first-ever Ivy League Tournament and its first-ever NCAA Tournament. Brown also tied the single season program record with 10 wins for the second consecutive season.
On the global stage, Dowd is one of the best international players in women's lacrosse history. She starred for the United States National Team from 2008-14. She scored a World Cup-record 26 goals in 2013 to lead the Americans to a gold medal. She earned All-World honors for her efforts and was named the Best Women's Player for 2013 by Lacrosse Magazine.
Dowd will officially take the reins next week where her immediate focus will be on the National Sixes Camp in Adelaide, Australia, selecting a squad to see Australia compete successfully at the World Games in Chengdu, China in August.
"The opportunity to lead Australia in the Olympic era is incredibly exciting and it is so special to be part of a team pushing for Olympic glory." Dowd added in the official release. "I cannot wait for our first training session and the opportunity to compete in the green and gold."
