No. 6 Men's Crew Wraps Up Eastern Sprints
5/18/2025 6:49:00 PM | Men's Crew
WORCESTER, Mass. - After an intense full day of racing, Brown men's crew finished competing at the Eastern Sprints late Sunday afternoon. The Bears had several boats earn top three finishes in their respective races, with the 2V8 taking the top spot in the Petite Final for their performance. Due to the V8 finishing in the top nine, Brown becomes an automatic qualifier for the 2025 IRA Championships in Camden, New Jersey.Â
"The competition at Sprints was intense and our crews raced really hard," said Men's Crew Head Coaching Chair Paul Cooke '89. "We didn't have the day we hoped for but the athletes gave everything they had. I don't think anyone is satisfied with the results and I think the team knows we have more to give. We have a lot of work to do to bounce back and not a lot of time."
Cooke went on to say, "The team spirit has been strong all year and we have the chance to regroup and come back stronger at the IRA. I was happy to see the 5V take the silver medals. Their energy and enthusiasm has been terrific."
The V8, stroked by Enno Mönch and coxed by Elenna Seguin, started the day with a time of 5:43.854 in their morning heat. After earning a spot in the Grand Final, David Person returned to his regular spot in the lineup at stroker and Brown's top boat posted a final time of 5:38.783, finishing in fifth place. The 2V8, stroked by Marcus Winter and coxed by Lizzie Mitchell, came in third place in their heat after crossing the finish line in 5:51.167. In the Petite Final, the 2V8 finished with a time of 5:47.175 and took first place.
The 3V8, stroked by Sean Egan and coxed by Jack Mershon, posted a final time of 5:53.314 in their morning heat before finishing in third place in the Petite Final with a time of 5:56.407. The 4V8, stroked by Cole Matlack and coxed by Will Bennett, qualified for the Grand Final after posting a time of 6:05.222 in their morning heat. In the Final, the 4V8 finished in sixth place after crossing the finish line in 6:07.141.
The 5V8, stroked by Stefan von der Goltz and coxed by Vijay Ramakrishnan, had the most successful day at Lake Quinsigamond after taking home the silver medal in the Grand Final with a time of 6:09.803.
