Women’s Tennis Bounces Back with 4-2 Win Over Cornell

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown women's tennis team (10-8, 2-1 Ivy) bounced back with a 4-2 win over the Cornell Big Red (10-6, 0-2 Ivy) on Sunday afternoon at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
"After yesterday's tough loss against Columbia, our team bounced back in a gritty win against Cornell," Broadbent Family Women's Tennis Head Coach Lucie Schmidhauser said. "After losing the doubles point, our players had to dig really deep and stay resilient as Cornell came out swinging in singles."
The Big Red collected the doubles point after posting wins at the first and third lines, forcing the Bears to enter singles in a 1-0 deficit.
"Dani and Sari did a great job in their matches with courageous play, evening the score to 2-2. Ali competed really well in her three-set win, turning the match around after losing the first set, and then settling into the match with her aggressive play. Annie and Bella played off each other's energy as they raced towards the finish line. Annie was able to close out her match and clinch the match by being very aggressive, stepping up and dictating play. Even though she didn't get to finish her match, Bella was so tough and battled through some physical challenges yet refused to quit," Schmidhauser added.
The Bears came from behind, holding Cornell to just one win in singles. Brown powered through their matches, earning wins at lines two, three, four, and six. Sophomore Dani Ben-Abraham completed her win in two sets over Cornell's Victoria Zhao, 6-1, 6-2. First-year Sari Woo defeated Andrea Martinez 6-4, 6-2 at the sixth line. First-year Ali Maguy took down the Big Red's Sage Loudon in three sets at line three (3-6, 6-3, 6-2). Sophomore Anne Yang clinched the match for the Bears, after defeating Jenny Wong at fourth singles (7-6(2), 6-2).
