Women’s Tennis Falls to Harvard

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown women's tennis team (10-9, 2-2 Ivy) fell short to the Harvard Crimson (12-8, 4-0 Ivy) on Friday afternoon at the Pizzitola Sports Center. Friday's contest marked the final home match of the season for the Bears.
"A tough loss today against Harvard. We definitely had chances in several singles matches. Our opponents put significant pressure on us in crucial moments and we were not always able to respond with disciplined play. At this level, we cannot afford to give away easy points when the chips are down," Broadbent Family Women's Tennis Head Coach Lucie Schmidhauser said.
Brown was unable to collect the doubles point at the start of the match. The pairing of Lindsey Hofflander and Addison Ahlstrom kept a tight match at the first line, but were unable to finish their match due to the point being clinched. Harvard earned wins at second and third doubles, giving them the 1-0 edge.
"In doubles, our senior duo of Lindsey and Addie played a great set of doubles on senior day," said Schmidhauser. "In singles, Addie showed great leadership and fight in her win at line three singles, beating a quality opponent with a tenacious and "never-say-never" mindset. She was courageous, attacking the net fearlessly, putting tremendous pressure on her opponent. Annie overcame some late-match nerves and out competed a high quality opponent in a long and extremely physical third set."
The Bears were able to earn wins at the third and fifth line. Ahlstrom showed out on senior day, posting a win over Harvard's Charlotte Owensby in two sets. Sophomore Anne Yang defeated the Crimson's Maxi Duncan in three sets (6-4, 3-6, 7-5). Harvard earned three singles wins, pushing them past the Bears.
