PRINCETON, N.J. – The Brown women's tennis team (5-1) fell to No. 5 Yale (6-1) 4-0 on the second day of the ECAC Championship.
"After a subpar performance in doubles in todays' match, we turned the tide in singles and competed with so much heart and intensity against a very tough Yale team." Broadbent Family Head Coach Lucie Schmidhauser said.
Opening with doubles, Dani Ben-Abraham and Hannah Shen lost their second match of the tournament to Orly Ogilvy and Leena Friedman at the first line, 6-1. At the third line, Anne Moody and Ali Maguy fell to Julia Werdiger and Shyla Aggarwal, 6-1. Since the Bulldogs earned the doubles point, the match between Abigail Lee and Chloe Qin and Erin Ha and Angela Huang at the second line, the match did not finish.
"Even though the score didn't go our way, I was proud of the fight and effort our players put into today's matches." Schmidhauser continued.
In singles, Dani Ben-Abraham went up first at the third line, falling to Julia Werdiger, 6-2 and 6-3. At the fifth line, Sari Woo lost her first singles match of the spring season to Angela Huang, rallying to the final score, 6-2 and 7-5. Abigail Lee lost her second match of the tournament to Shyla Aggarwal at the fourth line, 7-5 and 6-2. Hannah Shen's match to Leena Friedman at the second line did not finish, ending with a 7(7)-6(4) and 2-5 score. Anne Yang's match to Rachel Lee at the sixth line also did not finish, ending with a 6-3 and 4-4 score. Ali Maguy's match at the first line to Orly Ogilvy also did not complete since the Bulldogs clinched the match.
"Ali showed a lot of grit and fight in her comeback at line 1. After losing the first set 6-1, she didn't back down, kept hitting her shots and completely turned the match around and was playing some great tennis in the third set when the match was abandoned. Both Annie and Hannah won their first sets against their opponents and competed with so much heart when the match was clinched." Schmidhauser commented.
"I felt we made a lot of progress today as a team in terms of our ability to make opponents as uncomfortable as possible. We have another challenge ahead of us tomorrow when we face Columbia at 11a.m. I look forward to watching our team continue to develop their competitive skills and raise their level of play when most needed." Schmidhauser concluded.
