Women’s Tennis Drops First Conference Contest to No. 72 Columbia
4/5/2025 9:00:00 PM | Women's Tennis
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown women's tennis team (9-8, 1-1 Ivy) dropped their first conference contest 4-0, to nationally ranked No. 72 Columbia (11-6, 2-0 Ivy) at the Pizzitola Sports Center on Saturday afternoon.
"Today's match was a battle until the late stages of each match," Broadbent Family Women's Tennis Head Coach Lucie Schmidhauser. "We didn't start out well in doubles with too many errors produced on our end, losing the doubles point," Schmidhauser added.
"In singles, our players composed themselves and started competing better, challenging their opponents with better execution. The match came down to a few points in each set and match, but Columbia was simply tougher in big moments. We came up slightly short in all completed matches. Hannah and Dani competed hard in their tough three-set losses. Now we need to put today's match behind us and focus on our next match against Cornell tomorrow," commented Schmidhauser.
The Bears were unable to earn the doubles point, starting singles in a 1-0 deficit. The Bears battled throughout their singles matches. Senior Gabby Soliman and sophomore Hannah Shen pushed both of their matches to three sets. Columbia ultimately claimed the wins at lines 1-3, clinching the match.
