Women’s Tennis Drops Close Match at Penn
4/19/2025 6:30:00 PM | Women's Tennis
PHILADELPHIA, Penn. - The Brown women's tennis team (10-11, 2-4 Ivy) fell short at Penn (11-9, 4-2 Ivy) 4-2 on Saturday afternoon at the Hamlin Outdoor Tennis Center.
"Great effort in doubles," Broadbent Family Women's Tennis Head Coach Lucie Schmidhauser said. "Lindsey and Addie played excellent doubles with aggressive play and precise execution. Anne and Ali closed out the doubles point with a 6-4 win. Anne showed off her volley skills with some incredible net play with Ali setting her up well."
The Bears earned the doubles point after posting wins at first and third doubles. The senior duo of Addison Ahlstrom and Lindsey Hofflander took down Penn's Sabine Rutlauka and Eileen Wang 6-2 at line one. Junior Anne Moody, and first-year Ali Maguy teamed up at third doubles, earning a 6-4 victory over Maya Urata and Esha Velaga.
"In singles, Dani dominated her opponent at line 4 with the perfect blend of aggression and consistency. She competed with so much clarity and confidence in her shots," Schmidhauser said.
Sophomore Dani Ben-Abraham earned Brown's lone singles win at the fourth line. Ben-Abraham beat the Quakers' Eileen Wang in two sets 6-2, 6-2.
"We definitely had chances on other courts to take the momentum away from Penn, but instead of staying in the present and focusing on executing the right shots and playing with courage, we didn't seize the opportunity and matches got away from us in a hurry." commented Schmidhauser.
The Quakers were able to regain control after earning four singles wins, pushing them past the Bears.
"Hannah didn't get to finish her match when ahead 2-1 in the third set. She turned the match around from a 3-6, 0-3 deficit by limiting her unforced errors and becoming more disciplined with her shot selection. We finish our season tomorrow, and I hope each of our players can walk off the court being proud of the way they competed and problem-solved in their last match."
