PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's tennis team (15-7, 2-3 Ivy) defeated No. 68 Dartmouth (13-7, 2-3 Ivy), 4-3, to extend their home win streak to 10.
The Bears were off to a slow start to the match, beginning with doubles. At the second line, Anne Moody and Chloe Qin lost to Alexandra Orlins and Sam Grosjean, 6-2, while at the first line, Hannah Shen and Abigail Lee also fell to Peyton Capuano and Michela Moore, 6-2. Because Dartmouth clinched the doubles' point, the match at the third line—between Ali Maguy and Anne Yang and Josephine Lombardi and Elise Wong—did not finish.
"After a slow start in doubles, we bounced back with some courageous and clutch singles play," Broadbent Family Head Coach Lucie Schmidhauser said.
In singles play, the Bears bounced back. At the third line, Abigail Lee defeated Alexandra Orlins 6-1, 6-1, remaining undefeated in Ivy League play. Ali Maguy fell at the first line to Peyton Capuano, 6-3, 6-1. At the fourth line, Anne Yang bested Lauren Han, 6-1, 6-3. Hannah Shen secured her win at the second line against Michela Moore, 6-4, 7-6(4). Chloe Qin lost at the sixth line to Josephine Lombardi, 6-2, 6-2. The decisive point came at the fifth line, where Sari Woo staged a remarkable comeback. After losing the first set 0-6, Woo found her rhythm in the second, adjusting her game to win 6-2. Carrying the momentum, she maintained her focus in the third set, ultimately sealing the match with a 6-3 victory.
"Abbey evened the score at 1-1 with impressive singles play at line three, completely overwhelming her opponent with her aggressive groundstroke and net play. Annie used the windy conditions to her advantage, using angles to get her opponent out of position and finishing points assertively," Schmidhauser added.
"Hannah was relentless in big moments, forcing her opponent to hit an extra shot on every point. She used her speed and strong ball quality to pressure her opponent into errors, closing out the second set in a tiebreaker. Sari had the mental composure to bounce back after losing the first set 6-0. She improved her rally tolerance and depth in the second and third sets and was clutch in closing out her match and giving the Bears the Ivy win!" Schmidhauser concluded.
