No. 17 Women’s Lacrosse Overcomes Six-Goal Deficit to Defeat Dartmouth

HANOVER, N.H. - The No. 17 Brown women's lacrosse team (10-3, 4-1) overcame a first half six-goal deficit to earn a 13-12 win at Dartmouth (7-5, 1-4) on Saturday afternoon at Scully-Fahey Field.
With the win, Brown has won four consecutive Ivy League games and matched a program record with 10 wins in a single season. This is the second time Brown has won 10 games in back-to-back seasons since the 1996 and 1997 seasons.
Avery Doran got Brown on the board 2:24 into the game, Dartmouth then launched a 3-0 run over the next three minutes to take a 3-1 lead. After Greta Criqui stopped the Dartmouth run, the Big Green closed the first quarter on another 3-0 run to take a 6-2 advantage into the second quarter.
The Big Green extended their run to 5-0 with two quick goals early in second quarter to take an 8-2 lead. The Bears then closed the first half on a 5-0 run of their own to cut the Big Green lead to 8-7 heading into halftime. Brown had four different goal scorers during the run as Maddie Joyce scored twice while Riley Peterson and Beth Anderson also scored one goal each. Doran rounded out the goal scorers for Brown during the run with her second of the game.
Anne Booth entered the game for Brown after 11:24 of game action and stopped three shots in the first half.
The Bears tied the game at eight 3:11 into the second half on a goal from Criqui, Dartmouth then took a 9-8 lead less than two minutes later. Prior to Dartmouth's ninth goal, Brown held them scoreless for 17:14 of game time.
Brown then took the lead for good with a 3-0 run to take an 11-9 lead as Caputo, Doran, and Joyce found the back of the net. The Big Green stopped the Bears' run with a goal to cut their lead to 11-10 with three seconds remaining in the third quarter.
Brown extended its lead to 13-10 with goals from Doran and Peterson early in the fourth quarter. Following Peterson's goal, Dartmouth closed the game on a 2-0 run while cutting Brown's lead to 13-12 with 59 seconds remaining, but it wasn't enough as the Bears held on for the win.
Booth recorded nine saves while posting a .600 save percentage in 48:36 of game action, the freshman also had a game-high five ground balls. Doran finished with a game-high four goals and seven points, the freshman had 13 points in two games this week.
Joyce finished with three goals while Criqui and Peterson each had two goals. Joyce finished with a game-high seven draw controls while Anderson had six, nine Bears caused one turnover.
Brown will continue Ivy League play when they travel to No. 5 Princeton on Saturday, Apr. 19 at 12:00 p.m.
