Women’s Tennis Comes up Short Against No. 47 UNC Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Brown women's tennis team (8-7) fell short to No. 47 UNC Charlotte (15-3) at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex on Wednesday afternoon, 4-2.
"Today's match was such a great battle. I was proud of our team's fight against a very good UNC Charlotte team," Broadbent Family Women's Tennis Head Coach Lucie Schmidhauser said.
The Bears started the match in a 1-0 deficit after dropping their doubles matches. The 49ers swept through all three doubles matches, securing the point for them.
"We had chances in doubles that we were not able to capitalize on and Charlotte took the reins of the doubles point," Schmidhauser added.
Brown evened out the score after sophomore Anne Yang earned a win in fifth singles. Yang closed out her match in two sets against Charlotte's Yelyzave Chainykova 6-4, 6-1. The 49ers Prisca Abbas defeated Dani Ben-Abraham at the fourth line 6-2, 6-3. First-year Sari Woo took down Shona Nakano in three sets (1-6, 6-3, 6-1), knotting up the score once more, 2-2. UNC Charlotte earned wins at the second and first line, clinching their win over the Bears.
"In singles, every court was a battle until the end. Annie Yang played a strategically excellent match in her straight win, blending patience and aggressiveness seamlessly. Sari Woo completely turned her match around after losing the first set by hitting out on the ball with courage and executing shots that made her opponent very uncomfortable. At line one singles, Gabby battled until the very end, giving everything she had in her two and a half hour match and Hannah, as always, battled for every point with poise and fearlessness in her unfinished match," said Schmidhauser.
