GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Brown women's tennis team (8-6) fell 4-0 to the nationally ranked No. 38 Furman Paladins (13-2)Â on Monday afternoon. This loss snaps the Bears' six match winning streak, and extends the Paladins' to eight matches.
"It was a great experience for our team to play such an experienced and gritty team today. Furman made us fight for every point in every match and I was so glad our players didn't back down from the challenge. Unfortunately we made too many mistakes in crucial moments, but overall I was proud of the willingness our players showed to be uncomfortable as they competed until the last points of their matches. I trust our players will take today's match as a learning opportunity to continue to grow their competitive 'muscles',"Â Broadbent Family Women's Tennis Head Coach Lucie Schmidhauser said.
Brown was unable to earn the doubles point, starting the match with a 1-0 deficit. Furman picked up wins at second and third doubles giving the Paladins an early advantage.Â
The Bears battled their way through singles, unable to come out with a win. Furman's Sara Snyder and Ellie Schulson held off senior Gabby Soliman and sophomore Anne Yang at the first and fourth lines, respectively. First-year Ali Maguy fought against the Paladins' Marissa Pennings, but ultimately dropped her match in a second set tiebreaker (1-6, 7-6(1)).
