Men's Lacrosse Set for Saturday Showdown at #16 UMass

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown Bears (2-5, 0-1 Ivy League) head to Amherst, Massachusetts to renew the regional rivalry with the 16th-ranked UMass Minutemen (7-1, 0-0 A10) Saturday at Garber Field. Saturday's game is scheduled to begin at noon and will stream on ESPN+.

SCOUTING THE BEARS
- Brown enters the weekend with a 2-5 overall record and 0-1 Ivy League mark. The Bears most recently dropped a tight game to 17th-ranked Penn before falling to Villanova.
- Brown's offense averages 7.71 goals per game with senior Aidan McLane leading the team with 13 goals. Marcus Wertheim leads the Bears in assists (8) and points (20).
- Brown's man-up offense has six goals in 16 attempts (.375) to rank 36th nationally.
- The Bears own an .846 clear percentage to rank 46th in the NCAA.
- Defensively, the Bears allow 10.14 goals per game to rank fourth in the Ivy League and 30th nationally.
- Between the pipes, Connor Foley has started all seven games and holds a .592 save percentage and 9.82 goals against average.
- Brown's man-down defense clicks at .538 (14-for-26) to rank fifth in the Ivy League.
- UMass enters Saturday as the 16th-ranked team in the nation per the USILA Coaches Poll with a 7-1 record in 2025.
- UMass dropped the opener to Army before tallying seven straight wins and most recently took a 10-9 win at UMass Lowell.
- Offensively, UMass averages 11.63 goals per game to rank 31st nationally.
- Trace Hogan leads the team offensively with 20 goals and 15 assists for 35 points. Hogan ranks 23rd nationally with 4.38 points per game and is in the top-40 in goals and assists per game.
- The UMass man-up offense ranks 17th nationally at .467 (7-for-15).
- The Minutemen also rank 28th in the nation with an .865 clear percentage.
- Defensively, UMass ranks fifth in the nation with 8.00 goals against per game.
- Owen Salanger has started seven games in goal and holds a .614 save percentage and 7.48 goals against average. Both marks rank in the top-10 nationally.
- The man-down defense ranks fifth in the NCAA at .870 (20-for-23). UMass has not allowed a man-up goal in five consecutive games.
- TJ Casey has taken the majority of the faceoffs and holds a .527 win-rate (59-for-112).
- Saturday marks the 56th meeting between Brown and UMass dating back to 1963.
- The series is dead even overall with Brown holding a 29-26 all-time record against the regional rival.
- The Bears hold a 15-13 road record in the series.
- Both teams have won five of the last 10 meetings, eight of the last 16 meetings, and 16 of the last 32 meetings.
- Brown captured its eighth Ocean State Cup with a 10-8 road win over the Bryant Bulldogs on Tuesday (Mar. 4).

- Connor Foley tallied 16 saves in the win over the Bulldogs and finished the two Ocean State Cup games with 35 saves, a .714 save percentage, and a 7.00 goals against average.
- Aidan McLane recorded a hat trick and added an assist against Bryant to finish the Ocean State Cup games with seven goals and nine points.
- Senior goalie Andy Demopoulos recorded Brown's second goalie goal of the season against Villanova (Mar. 17).
- Demopoulos fired a full field shot in the third quarter against the Wildcats for the goal.
- McLane is closing in on the 100-point career milestone and enters Saturday with 94 career points.
- He looks to become the 36th Bear to record 100 career points and the first since his brother, Devon, cracked the milestone in 2023.
- He is 24 goals shy of 100 career goals. Just 13 Bears have reached the century mark in goals.
- Marcus Wertheim has points in all five games this season and leads the team with 20 points and eight assists.
- Wertheim posted a career-high four goals and matched a career-high with five points at Penn (Mar. 15) before recording a career-high four assists and five points at Villanova (Mar. 17).
- Jeremy Hopsicker tallied a career-high four goals against Villanova (Mar. 17) to record his first career hat trick.
- He tallied a goal and two assists in Brown's win over the Friars (Feb. 22) and chipped in with a goal against Bryant (Mar. 4).
- The junior is fourth on the team in scoring with nine points.
- Defenseman Mark Witt recorded his second career goal against Bryant (Mar. 4) and added his first career assist against Villanova (Mar. 17).
