Women's Water Polo Beats Mercyhurst, No. 16 Wagner to Start Harvard Invite

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Brown Women's Water Polo kicked off Saturday morning with a massive victory over Mercyhurst before overcoming No. 16 Wagner by one. Strong offensive showings throughout both games – including a shutout 8-0 performance in the second quarter of the Mercyhurst match – carried the Bears through the first day of the Harvard Invitational undefeated.
BROWN v. MERCYHURST [W, 19-6]
Freshman duo Emmy Hensley and Sophia Holman got the Bears on the board early in the first quarter, matching Mercyhurst's efforts to tie the match at 2-2. The Bears exploded in Q2, netting eight uncontested goals while shutting the Lakers down shot after shot. Ella Palmer and Gaby Montalvo logged two goals apiece, while Sofia Holman, Samantha Kim, Alexandra Love, and Claire Poissonnier each picked up one to bring the halftime score to 10-2 in favor of the Bears.
Brown continued to roll throughout the second half: Montalvo, Kim, and Holman each found the net once more in quarter three, along with Alessandra D'Arcy, who scored twice. In the final quarter, Sabrina Shipley and Hana Homma each picked up a goal apiece, followed by Skye Andros snagging two in a row to close out gameplay in a thrilling victory, 19-6.
BROWN v. NO. 16 WAGNER [W, OT, 13-12]
The Bears picked up their second win of the day by a much closer margin, defeating Wagner in overtime, 13-12. Aubrie Anderson led the Bears in scoring with five goals, followed by Ella Palmer and Madeleine Poissonnier, who logged three and two respectively. Samantha Kim, Claire Poissonnier, and Alexandra Love each also picked up a goal apiece.
