Men's Lacrosse Drops Saturday Matchup to #10 Georgetown
3/1/2025 3:38:00 PM | Men's Lacrosse
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The tenth-ranked Georgetown Hoyas (3-2, 0-0 Big East) held off the Brown Bears (1-3, 0-0 Ivy League) with a 13-8 win behind 17 saves from Anderson Moore Saturday afternoon at Stevenson-Pincince Field.
"Congrats to Georgetown, they outplayed us for 60 minutes and they executed when they needed to," said head coach Jon Torpey. "I felt like we struggled on both ends from the opening whistle and it's tough to play catch-up lacrosse for 60 minutes.
"We have a short time to get recovered and make some adjustments before we play a very talented Bryant team."
After a scoreless stretch to open the game, Georgetown took the lead as Joe Cesare tallied his seventh goal of the season with 8:26 remaining in the first quarter. Aidan Carroll pushed the score to 2-0 with his seventh of the season a minute later.
Cesare added his second of the game with 5:25 remaining to push the Hoya lead to three.
Brady O'Kane cut into the lead with his first collegiate goal with 4:45 remaining in the quarter. The freshman collected a pass from Ben Scandone and wired a shot to beat Moore.
After a scoreless eight minutes to start the second quarter, the Hoyas struck for three goals in just over three minutes to extend the lead to 6-1.
Marcus Wertheim tallied his fifth of the season man-up off a feed from Scandone with 11:51 remaining in the third.
Scandone found the back of the net for his first goal of the afternoon with 4:15 remaining, and less than a minute later, Ennis Udo struck for his first collegiate goal to bring the Bears within five.
Carroll completed the hat trick in the opening minute of the fourth quarter to give Georgetown a 10-4 lead.
Aidan McLane tallied his first of the game and seventh of the season with 12:48 remaining in the fourth.
After a Georgetown goal, Matteo Corsi and Christian Rasmussen tallied goals within a minute to bring Brown within four at 11-7.
Carroll ended the mini-Brown run with his fourth of the game with 3:47 remaining in the game. He added his fifth of the afternoon with 1:46 remaining.
O'Kane added his second of the game with 1:04 remaining with Scandone adding his fourth assist of the game.
