Women's Water Polo Beats LIU in Overtime to at Crimson Classic

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Brown Women's Water Polo split the first day of the Crimson Classic on Saturday, falling to UC Santa Barbara, 14-13 before bouncing back to defeat LIU 16-14. Both games extended into overtime. Hanna Tidrenczel and Sofia Holman led the Bears in scoring, logging seven and five goals respectively across the day.
BROWN v. UCSB [L, 13-14, OT]
UC Santa Barbara came out on top by one point in a tight race on Saturday morning. The score was tied at the end of the first quarter, with Anderson, Palmer, Tidrenzcel, and Holman behind the Bears' first four points.
Madeleine Poissonnier netted one more in the second quarter, bringing Brown to a halftime lead of 5-4. The Bears continued to fight hard throughout the second half, with Anderson, Palmer, Tidrenczel, and Holman racking in seven more goals before heading into overtime. Brown netted one more goal courtesy of Holman before the final buzzer sounded -- not quite enough to match UCSB's overtime effort.
BROWN v. LIU [W, 16-14, OT]
The Bears bounced back in the evening to pick up their first win of the weekend. Gaby Montalvo and Hanna Tidrenzcel shined, bringing in four points apiece to account for eight of the Bears' sixteen points recorded in the win over LIU. Tidrenzcel scored in every period of regular gameplay, and Montalvo logged one of three overtime points.
Holman got Brown on the board early in the first quarter. Claire Poissonnier and Hanna Tidrenczel were quick to follow suit, and the Bears headed into the first quarter with three points to LIU's two. Tidrenczel and Holman each struck again in the second quarter, netting one apiece.
Brown trailed LIU by one point at the beginning of the second half before exploding in the third quarter to rack in six goals, courtesy of C. Poissonnier, Palmer, Tidrenczel, Love, and Montalvo with two. LIU evened out the score despite efforts from Tidrenzcel and Montalvo in the fourth quarter, and the Bears headed into overtime tied 13-13.
Cleo Washer and Ava Schoening scored their first goals of the day in OT, alongside Gaby Montalvo with her fourth, leading Brown to victory by two points.

The Bears will be ready to go in Cambridge again tomorrow morning, looking to snag their second win this season over the Villanova Wildcats. The match is set to start at 11:40 a.m. and will be streaming live on ESPN+.
