Men’s Basketball Overcomes Double-Digit Deficit to Defeat Harvard
2/28/2025 8:25:00 PM | Men's Basketball
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Brown men's basketball team (14-11, 6-6) overcame a second half double-digit deficit at Harvard (10-15, 5-7) to earn a 59-52 win on Friday evening inside Lavietes Pavilion.
"This win felt good," senior Aaron Cooley said. "It's my last time playing in Boston as a senior and I wanted to leave a lasting impact and go out with a bang. I wanted to show my teammates that this was a playoff game, like coach Martin said, nothing's guaranteed these last two games so I'm just going as hard as I can."
Brown trailed 42-32 with 15:30 remaining in the second half, after the two teams traded baskets, Harvard led 44-35. Trailing by nine, Brown launched a 10-0 run, giving them a 45-44 lead. Harvard scored its 44th point of the game with 13:54 remaining in the second half; they wouldn't score again until 4:48 remaining in the second half.
The Bears held the Crimson to 19 second half points on 9-26 shooting from the field. The Bears forced 10 second half turnovers as four players earned a steal in the second half, highlighted by two steals by Alexander Lesburt Jr.
Cooley led all scorers with 14 points on 6-11 shooting from the floor to go along with four rebounds. After going scoreless in the first half, Lewis scored nine points in the second half, the junior shot 5-6 from the free throw line in the final 20 minutes. Eight of Lewis' nine points came in the final 2:20 of regulation. Lyndel Erold chipped in with eight points and four rebounds, the senior shot 3-6 from the field to go along with two blocks.
Harvard's 52 points was the lowest amount Brown has allowed this season.
The Bears have won four out of their last five games and will be back in action on Saturday, Mar. 1 when they travel to Dartmouth, tip-off is set for 4:00 p.m. at Leede Arena.
