Women's Tennis Drops Match to No. 22 Baylor

WACO, Texas - The Brown women's tennis team (2-5) fell to the No. 22 Baylor Bears (8-1) 6-1, on Monday night at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center.Â
"We came out really strong in doubles, taking leads on two of the three courts. Lindsey and Addie played with clarity and confidence, beating a high quality team 6-3. In singles, our team competed from the first point to the last. I was proud of the fight our team displayed playing one of the best teams in the country. We continue to increase our competitiveness and our players are starting to embrace being in uncomfortable situations and figuring out a way to persevere in those moments. Baylor is a very good team and we were able to really stress our opponents on most courts," Broadbent Family Women's Tennis Head Coach Lucie Schmidhauser said.
The Bears put up a fight in doubles, keeping the matches close at the first and second line. Seniors Addison Ahlstrom and Lindsey Hofflander competed with strength against Baylor's Kennedy Gibbs and Cristina Tiglea at the first line, posting a 6-3 finish. Baylor's Zuzanna Kubacha and Wenfei Yu earned a quick win over sophomore Anne Yang and junior Anne Moody at third doubles, 6-1. First-year Ali Maguy and sophomore Hannah Shen remained poised at the second line, but ultimately dropped the match 4-6 to the Baylor Bears' Sierra Berry and Na Dong, allowing Baylor to earn the doubles point.
Shen earned the Brown Bears a win at third singles over No. 85 Na Dong. Shen defeated Dong in three sets, 7-6(4), 2-6, 12-10. Sophomore Dani Ben-Abraham battled against the Baylor Bears' Nanaka Sato in sixth singles, falling in three sets 4-6, 7-5, 6-10. Baylor collected wins at the first, second, fourth, fifth and sixth lines, giving them the advantage over Brown.Â
