Men's Lacrosse Falls in Defensive Battle to BU
2/18/2025 5:23:00 PM | Men's Lacrosse
BOSTON, Mass. – Connor Foley recorded 18 saves and added a goal Tuesday afternoon in Boston, but the Boston University Terriers (3-0, 0-0 Patriot) took an 8-7 win over the Brown Bears (0-2, 0-0 Ivy League) in non-conference action.
"BU is a very talented and well coached team," said head coach Jon Torpey. "We knew on the short turnaround that we would have our hands full, but I was very encouraged by the way our guys came back multiple times in the game.
"With the ride, the faceoff X, and several changes on offense and defense we gave ourselves chance to tie the game in the final seconds. As a staff we made a great deal of adjustments both schematically and personnel-wise and our guys did a great job picking up and executing on them.
"It's always tough to see a loss, but this group is growing and getting better. I'm very proud of each of them. We host another great team on Saturday and our goal is to make adjustments and get recovered so that we can be 100%."
Foley stood tall in the opening quarter and recorded nine saves as the Terriers took a 2-0 lead. Jimmy Kohr scored early in the quarter before Mike Rooney scored a late man-up goal.
Rooney added his second of the game early in the second to push the lead to 3-0, but Ben Scandone ended the run with his first of the game with 9:12 remaining in the half.
Scandone broke the BU ride and added his second consecutive goal with 2:59 remaining in the half to bring the Bears within a goal.
Foley continued his stellar play with another six saves in the frame to finish the opening half with 15 stops.
Foley added to the other side of the field with a goal from beyond midfield to tie the game at 3-3 with 11:25 remaining in the third quarter.
The Terriers reclaimed the lead with goals from Ben Morris, Rooney, and Kohr to push the score to 6-3 with 4:09 remaining in the third.
Marcus Wertheim dodged a Terrier and rifled a shot to beat BU goalie Will Barnes (8 saves) in the first minute of the fourth quarter to bring the Bears back within two goals.
Jimmy O'Connell recorded his first of the game with 11:48 remaining to push BU's lead back to three. Less than a minute later, Aidan McLane broke through for his first goal of the season to cut into the Terrier lead.
McLane struck from distance for his second straight goal off a feed from Ennis Udo to make it a one-goal game with 8:29 remaining.
Kohr completed the hat trick with BU's second man-up goal of the game with 5:25 remaining in the game.
Jeremy Hopsicker finished a feed from Wertheim to bring the Bears within a goal with 25 seconds remaining, leading to a BU timeout.
Dash Sachs won the ensuing faceoff cleanly and found McLane with a pass, leading to a Brown timeout with 17.5 second remaining. Off the timeout, Brown got a great look with Luke Dellicicchi in close, but his last-second shot went just wide.
