Women's Water Polo Beats Pacific and UC Merced To Close Bronco Invitational

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Brown Women's Water Polo (6-6) went undefeated on the second day of the Bronco Invitational, taking down Pacific by one point in an overtime thriller before dominating UC Merced 16-4.
BROWN v. PACIFIC [W, 11-10, OT]
Brown came out on top in a tightly-contested battle against Pacific, winning in overtime thanks to a goal from Ella Palmer. Cleo Washer had a standout game, contributing five of the Bears eleven total goals.
Ava Schoening got the Bears on the board early in the first period. The Tigers were quick to respond, firing off four before Cleo Washer could find the net again. Brown brought in two goals in the second period courtesy of Sofia Holman and Cleo Washer, but were outscored again by the Tigers to bring the halftime score to 7-4 in Pacific's favor.
The two teams matched efforts shot for shot in the third period, with Washer and Ella Palmer finding the net alongside Pacific's two goals. The Bears exploded in the fourth period, with Palmer and Schoening scoring one apiece alongside Washer's two to head into overtime tied at 10-10.
Palmer netted the final goal of the match off of an assist from Schoening to secure the Bears' first victory of the day.
BROWN v. UC MERCED [W, 16-4]
In a massive victory over UCM, it was Aubrie Anderson and Gaby Montalvo who led the way in scoring, netting five and four goals respectively. The second period was a particularly impressive shutout for the Bears, racking in seven goals to UCM's zero.
The Bears secured an early lead in the first period courtesy of Anderson, Ella Palmer, Cleo Washer, and Claire Poissonnier. Anderson kicked off the second period with three uncontested goals, followed by Ava Schoening and Sofia Holman with two apiece to bring the halftime score to 11-3. Montalvo then racked in four in a row across the second half, alongside Anderson with one more to bring the final score to a massive 16-4 victory over UCM.

The Bears are heading back home to the east coast, and will be back in action at home this weekend with conference matchups against Michigan, Saint Francis and Bucknell.
