Women’s Lacrosse Earns Convincing 20-3 Season-Opening Win Over New Hampshire

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown women's lacrosse team (1-0) earned a 20-3 wire-to-wire season-opening win over New Hampshire (1-1) at Stevenson-Pincince Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Bears jumped on the Wildcats early, scoring 10 goals in the first 7:47 of the contest. Brown added a goal with 4:12 remaining in the first quarter to take an 11-0 advantage into the second quarter, they had seven different goal scorers in the opening 15 minutes as Leah Caputo led the way with a first quarter hat trick.
Riley Peterson added her first-career goal in the first quarter for the Bears as its 11 first quarter goals was the most since they scored 12 at Stetson (Mar. 25, 2024).
Brown outscored New Hampshire 5-0 in the second quarter, highlighted by two goals from Marley Wright as they took a 16-0 advantage into the second half.
The Bears out shot the Wildcats 27-3 in the first half, 23 of Brown's 27 shots were on goal. Brown also held a 14-3 draw control advantage in the first 30 minutes.
The Bears added four second half goals to bring their goal total to 20.
Brown had 11 different goal scorers as seven players scored two or more goals in the win, highlighted by Leah Caputo and Beth Anderson who each tallied hat tricks. Anderson recorded a team-high four points as she added an assist, the sophomore earned a game-high 12 draw controls, she also added two ground balls.
Claire Mahoney started in goal for the Bears and earned a 30 minutes shutout while stopping all three shots on target.
Brown will play two consecutive road games before coming back to Stevenson-Pincince Field. First, the Bears will travel to Holy Cross (Feb. 21) before traveling to Sacred Heart (Feb. 23).
