Track and Field Competes at Harvard Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Brown Bears Track and Field program competed at the Harvard Invitational this weekend. The men's team competed on Friday and the women's team competed on Saturday.
MEN
First-year Kyle Dargie competed in the 60-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. He set personal records in both, finishing 15th in the 60-meter preliminaries with a time of 7.19 and seventh in the 200-meter final with a time of 23.25.
First-year John Mueller also set a personal record with a third place finish in the 400-meter run and a time of 50.47.
The 800-meter run featured sophomore Matthew Wing who placed third with a time of 1:58.29.
In the men's mile race four Bears competed. Justin Hickey finished first with a time of 4:21.41. Henry Wood (8th/4:28.12), Kit Jackson (12th/4:32.35) and Brendan Leahey (18th/4:36.62) were the other competitors.
Sophomore Karon Johnson placed second in the shot put with a mark of 15.03 meters.
In the men's weight throw Keith Daigneau finished first with a mark of 19.24 meters and James Chafouleas finished fifth with a mark of 14.43 meters.
WOMEN
In the 200-meter dash junior Jenna Lowrey finished 15th with a time of 27.05.
The women's 400-meter run featured three Brown athletes. Kareema McKenzie set a personal record of 58.65 which earned a sixth place finish.
Lowrey finished ninth with a time of 59.05 and Katrina Sortland earned a personal record with a 13th place finish and a time of 59.86.
Junior Julia Schriefer won the 1000-meter race with a time of 2:57.09.
The women's 3000-meter race featured five Bears. Julia Soderbery finished fourth with a personal best time of 10:32.62. Sara Perez (5th/10:35.68), Veronica Ambrosionek (9th/10:50.24) and Caroline McCool (10th/10:55.15) also set personal records. Olivia Bergin finished 11th with a time of 11:05.21.
In the 60-meter hurdles Kareema McKenzie placed ninth with a time of 9.45.
Michelyn Appiah was the lone Bear to compete in the shot put championship, securing a personal best mark of 13.83 meters and a second place finish.
Sophomore Amiya Hopkins was first in the shot put open competition with a personal best mark of 12.99 meters. Lydia Kentis was fourth with a mark of 11.59 meters and Nicolette Ducharme was fifth with a mark of 11.43 meters, both competing in the open competition.
In the women's weight throw championship Chidinma Agbasi finished first with a mark of 19.24 meters. Junior Zoe Carter-Konate finished fourth with a mark of 17.32 meters, which is good for eighth best in Brown school history. Jillian Leahy was sixth with a mark of 16.32 meters.
The weight throw open competition featured four Bears. Michelyn Appiah finished first with a mark of 16.70 meters and Sophia Gallucci was second with a mark of 15.74 meters. Giana DeCesare achieved a personal best 15.51 meters which was good for third place. Nicolette Ducharme was sixth with a mark of 15.04 meters.
UP NEXT
The Brown Bears Track and Field program will return to Harvard next weekend for the Crimson Elite on Friday, February 7. They will also compete on Saturday at the Boston University Scarlet & White meet and the URI Coaches Invitational.
