Men’s Basketball Falls 86-79 in Hard-Fought Battle at Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown men's basketball team (4-6) fell 86-79 in a hard-fought battle at Providence (7-4) inside the Amica Mutual Pavilion on Tuesday evening.
The Friars opened the game on a 9-2 run after the Bears missed three out of their first four field goal attempts. After two made free throws from N'famara Dabo, the game entered the first media timeout with Providence holding a 9-4 advantage with 15:29 to go in the first half.
Brown proceeded with a 12-7 run to tie the game at 16 behind four made field goals from Landon Lewis. The Los Angeles, Calif. native began the run with three-straight made field goals, highlighted by a three-point play. Lewis capped off the spurt with his fourth made field goal, a layup that cut the Friars' lead to 16-14. A David Rochester knotted the game at 16 with a second chance basket.
Providence regained its advantage, pushing its lead to 29-23 with 6:23 to go in the first half. Brown responded with an 8-2 run behind baskets from Lewis, Dabo, and Jeremiah Jenkins, and two made free throws by Malcolm Wrisby-Jefferson. Dabo's layup tied the game at 31 with 4:15 to go in the half.
The first half ended with Providence holding a 42-37 lead, Lewis led all scorers with 13 points to go along with a first half high five rebounds. Brown had six steals in the first half as Jenkins led the way with two.
Providence opened the second half on a 13-5 run to push its lead to 55-42 with 13:49 remaining. Brown quickly cut the deficit to 57-50 behind three points from each Rochester and Adrian Uchidiuno, and two points from Dabo. After the Friars pushed its lead to 62-52, Luke Paragon made three-straight three-pointers to bring the game to 67-61. David Rochester's three-point play on the following possession cut Providence's lead to 67-64 with 7:03 remaining.
The Bears would cut the Friars' lead to three one more time before Providence opened up a 10-point advantage with 2:48 to go as it held on for the victory.
Lewis led all scorers with 17 points to go along with eight rebounds. Paragon netted a career-high 15 points on a career-high five made three-pointers while Uchidiuno added 12 points on 5-10 shooting from the floor. Rochester matched a career-high with 12 points, the sophomore has scored in double figures in three consecutive games.
Jenkins added seven points, seven rebounds, eight assists, and a game-high three steals.
Brown will return to action on Sunday, Dec. 21 when they travel to USC, tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. EST inside the Galen Center.
