Women’s Basketball Set to Open 2025-26 Campaign at Belmont on Friday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown women's basketball team will open up their 2025-26 season in Nashville, Tenn. when they take on the Belmont Bruins on Friday night at Curb Event Center. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. (ET).
The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
Scouting the Bears
- The Bears closed out the 2024-25 season 12-15 overall, and 6-8 in Ivy League play. They finished tied for fourth with Penn, with the Quakers finishing higher in RPI.
- Brown finished non-conference play with a 6-7 mark.
- The Bears were selected to finish fifth in the Ivy League Preseason Poll, which was announced by the conference on Oct. 23. Brown received 84 votes in the poll, in comparison to last year's 71.
- Brown added six newcomers to their roster ahead of the 2025-26 season with Charlotte Adams-Lopez, Charlotte Climehage, Lindsay Harzich, Morgan Ross, Isabella Wesley, and Monet Witherspoon. Climenhage is a transfer from Nevada, and Witherspoon is a transfer from Tufts. Witherspoon was also tabbed NESCAC Rookie of the Year last season.
- Brown returns 10 players from the 2024-25 squad in Ada Anamekwe, Grace Arnolie, Mady Calhoun, Sela Klein, Mackenzie Leahy, Alyssa Moreland, Beth Nelson, Aima Ofunrein, Gia Powell, and Olivia Young.
- Nine of Brown's returners saw action last season. Seven out of the 10 returners made 20 or more appearances last season.
- Head Coach Monique LeBlanc announced the finalization of her coaching staff in the offseason. Devon Quattrocchi and Jason Pellum join Tyler Patch as assistant coaches, while Logan Hatch joins the staff as an Operations Coordinator.
Scouting the Bruins (0-1, 0-0 MVC)
- Last season, Belmont finished with a 26-13 overall record. They went 15-5 in conference play, and posted a 12-3 mark in the Curb Event Center.
- The Bruins were selected to win the Missouri Valley Conference in their preseason poll, with 446 points and 25 first-place votes. They were selected ahead of the defending regular season and tournament champion Murray State.
- The Bruins were given preseason nods with Tuti Jones, Jailyn Banks, Emily La Chapell, and Avery Strickland being named to the MVC's Player to Watch List. Head Coach Bart Brooks was also named to the Kathy Delaney-Smith Mid-Major Coach of the Year Preseason Watchlist.
- Belmont returns eight players in Sanaa Tripp, Hilary Fuller, Quinn Eubank, Kensley Feltner, Jailyn Banks, Claire Hyde, Emily La Chapell, and Tuti Jones.
- The Bruins added five freshmen in the offseason with Decarra Ward, Kate McGinnis, Rylie Beers, Tatum Woodson, and Leah West. They also added transfers Avery Strickland (Tennessee) and KK Brodie (Pepperdine).
- Belmont kicked off their season this past Monday, when they took on No. 6/7 ranked Oklahoma. Oklahoma walked away with the win, defeating the Bruins 67-84.
History
- The Bears and Bruins have previously met once, during the 2000-01 season.
- The teams played in Indiana in the Holiday Inn/Fazoli's Classic.
- Brown defeated Belmont 78-62.
