PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown women's basketball team (4-2) made a fourth quarter comeback, pushing them past New Hampshire (2-5) 68-60. The result marks Brown's fourth-straight win, leaving them with a clean 3-0 sheet inside of the Pizzitola Sports Center.
"Definitely got some experience tonight learning what it feels like to be put on your heels pretty quickly, and what it is going to take to climb out of that against a team that is playing really hard," Elizabeth F. Turner '98 Coaching Chair for Women's Basketball Monique LeBlanc said. "Proud of our fight, comeback, and focus in the second half to do what needed to be done."
Brown had four players finish Tuesday's contest in double-figures in Alyssa Moreland (17), Grace Arnolie (14), Charlotte Adams-Lopez (11), and Olivia Young (11). This marks Moreland's fifth and fourth-straight contest in double figures, as well as her third game posting double-doubles.
New Hampshire struck first, with a three-pointer from Carolina Williams about 40 seconds into the game. Both teams exchanged baskets midway through the first quarter, with Moreland knotting the score up at 14 with one minute left on the clock. The Wildcats' Elizabeth Lavoie snapped the tie with a three-pointer before the opening 10 minutes came to a close.
The Wildcats began to pull away from the Bears, opening the second quarter with a 7-0 run. The Bears scored 10 points in what would prove to be their lowest-scoring quarter, to New Hampshire's 19. Brown faced a 12-point deficit (24-36) heading into the break.
The Bears came out firing in the third quarter, almost doubling their points from the second. Brown was able to minimize New Hampshire's scoring chances, holding them to just 11 points in the third. The third quarter was the lowest-scoring for the Wildcats.
At the fourth quarter media timeout, the Bears were within one point of the Wildcats. A free throw from Young would tie the score up again at 54 with four and a half minutes remaining in regulation. Arnolie hit a layup that New Hampshire's Camryn Fauria responded to, knotting the score at 56. From that point on Brown was able to pull apart, with a three-pointer from Beth Nelson ultimately sealing the Wildcats' fate. The Bears wrapped up the quarter with five more free throws, extending their lead over New Hampshire 68-60.
The Bears overcame a 12-point deficit at the break, outscoring the Wildcats 44-24 in the second half to earn its fourth straight win of the season.
