Cross Country Set to Compete at Ivy League Heps on Friday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - With a successful regular season completed, the Brown cross country teams are locked in and ready to compete in the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships this Friday at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.

HISTORY
This will be the 77th Ivy Heps Race and it marks the 66th time the Heps has been hosted at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, with the most recent one being three years ago (2022).
Both the men's and women's teams have one team title to their credit with the women earning theirs in 1999 and the men in 2003. Individually, the men have had five individual Ivy champions in program history in Edward Sullivan (1957), Bobby Lowe (1960), Chris Schille (1987), Greg Whiteley (1988), and Enda Johnson (2000). The women have had two in Sara Tindall winning consecutive crowns in 1999 and 2000.
For men's head coach Collin Zeffer and women's head coach John Kenworthy, this will both be their third Ivy Heps Race.
MEN
The Bears have run four races distanced at eight kilometers this season, including one at Van Cortlandt Park where the team averaged a finish of 25:40 while finishing 12th out 22 teams at the IC4A Championships. They captured a win at their home meet, the Rothenberg Run, last Friday at a 5K distance. The team's best time came at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on September 20 with an average of 25:05. Seniors John Farrell and sophomore Colin Fisher have been the team's top finishers this season. Farrell finished first for Brown at the Paul Short Run and second at the IC4A Championship, and Fisher finished first at the IC4A and second at Paul Short. Junior Sebastian Margetts finished first at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational and Rothenberg Run, along with securing points at the Paul Short Run.
WOMEN
The women have run three races this season distanced at six kilometers, with their best average time coming from the Paul Short Run at 21:22 on October 3. They averaged 21:36.5 in their first place finish at the ECAC Championships which was their only race at Van Cortlandt Park this season. In all three of their 6K races, senior Nimrit Ahuja has finished first for the Bears, including a first place overall finish at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational with a time of 21:03.8. Senior Julia Schriefer has finished second behind Ahuja and third in all her competed races this season. Freshmen Haley Kavanagh and Charlotte Murphy have both had strong finishes, representing the underclassmen of the Bears cross country team.
UP NEXT
After Friday, the Bears will compete at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships at the Hopkinton Fairgrounds in New Hampshire on Friday, November 14 to compete for qualifying spots to the NCAA Championship Meet.
