Men’s Cross Country Takes First Place as Bears Host Rothenberg Run

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – A first place finish for junior Sebastian Margetts helped propel the Brown men's cross country team to a first place finish on Friday afternoon at Brown's Rothenberg Run at Highland Park.
On the women's side, sophomore Sarah Paul finished 12th overall to help the Bears to a fourth place team finish.
The men finished their 5K race with 38 points, placing ahead of Holy Cross (54), Providence (70), Stonehill (78) and Bryant (121).
Margetts took first place overall by nearly five seconds with a winning time of 15:18.1. Senior Jason Markopoulos was third overall in 15:33.7, followed by junior Matt Wing (6th/15:39.5), junior Matthew Doherty (10th/15:49.1) and sophomore Nick Strayer (18th/16:03.1) to complete Brown's five scoring runners. Freshmen Dermot Maloney (20th/16:06.1) and George Christmas (23rd/16:12.6) rounded out the Bears' top seven.
In the women's 3K race, Providence led the way for the team title with 23 points, followed by Holy Cross (66), Bryant (84), Brown (86) and Stonehill (100).
Paul led the way for Brown in 11th place overall in 10:50.2, with freshman Kata Clark right behind in 12th at 10:53.0. Junior Nina Kruzewska (17th/10:59.7), senior Juli Gonzalez (25th/11:09.0) and first-year Megan Jasinski (26th/11:09.2) rounded out Brown's top five with juniors Veronica Ambrosionek (27th/11:09.7) and Katrina Sortland (28th/11:11.2) rounding out the top seven.
Friday's meet served as the final regular season race for the Bears who will now turn their attention to the Ivy League Heps, which will take place next Friday morning, October 31 at Van Cortland Park in the Bronx.
