
Cross Country Competes at New England Championships

CONTOOCOOK, N.H. - The Brown cross country programs competed at the New England XC Championships on Friday at the Hopkinton State Fairgrounds in New Hampshire. The women's team finished 14th overall out of 25 teams in their 5K race with senior Sara Perez leading the way for Brown. The men's team only competed three runners and did not post a team score.
In the women's 5K race, Providence captured first with 67 points, as Maine finished second with 82 points. New Hampshire (109), Sacred Heart (146), and Merrimack (188) finished out the top five in the women's race that featured 25 teams.
Perez finished first for Brown and 49th overall out of 281 runners with a time of 18:50.42. Senior Juli Gonzalez finished second on the team and 83rd overall with a time of 19:20.18. Junior Nina Kruzewska (89th/19:23.26), freshman Maxine Paul-Emile (102nd/19:32.55), and freshman Kata Clark (106th/19:35.5) rounded out the top five, with junior Veronica Ambrosionek (132nd/19:55.57) finishing sixth.
In the men's race, freshman Benjy Street finished 41st overall out of 257 runners with a time of 25:24.87. Freshman Dermot Maloney finished second for Brown and 45th overall with a time of 25:28.07, and sophomore Kit Jackson finished third for Brown and 64th overall with a time of 25:43.66.
Brown will return to action on Friday, October 17th, at the ECAC/IC4A Championships at Van Cortland Park in the Bronx.
