Scott’s Hat Trick Powers Men’s Hockey to 4-2 Win and Season Sweep over #20 Clarkson

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown Bears (6-9-2, 4-7-1 ECAC) capped off both the weekend and season sweep with a 4-2 win over the 20th-ranked Clarkson Golden Knights (13-7-2, 7-3-0 ECAC) Saturday evening at Meehan Auditorium.
It is the first time in program history the team has swept both Clarkson and St. Lawrence in the same season. It's also the fourth regular season sweep over Clarkson in program history and the first since the 2009-10 season.
"It was a great win, Clarkson is a top team in our league and the country and hadn't been beat on the road this season," said head coach Brendan Whittet '94. "I thought we played a full 60 minutes, and we found a way to get it done at the end.
"We stuck with the process, we just worked and worked and were rewarded for how hard we played for 60 minutes. It's good to see and those are two big wins on the weekend. We'll move into non-league for two games.
"We played to our identity, and our identity is fast, hard, and heavy."
Tony Andreozzi gave the Bears 1-0 lead just 43 seconds into the game with his first goal of the season. The senior jumped in on the rush and finished a feed from Charlie Gollob to beat Clarkson goaltender Ethan Langenegger (37 saves). Tyler Kopff added the secondary assist on the goal.
Clarkson drew even on the power play 3:17into the second period as Ellis Rickwood found a loose puck off a rebound and beat Lawton Zacher (25 saves). Ryan Taylor and Ayrton Martino picked up the assists.
Brown responded with a beautiful power play goal as Brian Nicholas hit Max Scott with a stretch pass to spring the sophomore on a breakaway 8:12 into the frame. Scott beat Langenegger with Ryan St. Louis adding the secondary assist.
The Golden Knights tallied a second power play goal with 2:08 remaining in the third as Martino blasted a one-timer off a feed from Trey Taylor to pick up his 13th goal of the season.
Scott struck for his second of the night and ninth of the season with 1:25 remaining off a feed from Brendan Clark to give the Bears a 3-2 lead. Andreozzi jumped in on the play and won a puck battle to Clark below the goal line, and the senior found Scott in the slot for the quick strike goal.
Scott capped off the hat trick and sealed the win with an empty net goal with 27 seconds remaining to give the Bears a 4-2 win. St. Louis and Alex Pineau picked up the assists on the goal.
