Field Hockey Falls to BU in Shootout

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Lucie Shroeder and Jule Rothenberger scored for the Bears (0-2, 0-0 Ivy) Sunday afternoon, but the Boston University Terriers (2-2, 0-0 Patriot) clinched the win after two overtimes and a shootout at Goldberger Family Field.

"I'm really happy with the way we played," said head coach Britt Broady. "We need to lock into a couple pieces of the game so that we can walk away with a win. Our defensive organization was exceptional today and this is certainly the best Brown Field Hockey team I've ever seen."

Shroeder tallied her first collegiate goal and the first goal of the day late in the first quarter. She shot off the penalty corner with assists coming from Rothenberger and Lucy Adams.

Early in the second quarter, Katie Devine pulled the Terriers up to a 1-1 tie.

The Bears responded as Rothenberger recorded the first goal of her collegiate career halfway though the third quarter, pulling Brown ahead 2-1, assisted by Katie McCallum.

Devine tallied her second goal of the afternoon 20 seconds after Brown in the third quarter, and after a scoreless fourth quarter, regulation ended in a tie.

The Bears and Terriers went through both overtimes scoreless, leading into a shootout.

BU won the shootout 3-2 with Katie McCallum and Lucy Adams scoring for Brown.

GAME NOTES

The Bears outshot the Terriers 20-9, and out saved the Terriers with a 6-4 advantage.
The Bears also had a 9-5 penalty corner advantage.

The Bears will host UConn (4-0, 0-0 Big East) on Thursday at Goldberger Family Field. Thursday's game is scheduled for 4 p.m. and will stream on ESPN+.
