Brown Cross Country Shines at UMass Invitational

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Brown Bears competed in their second race of the season at Robert Dowd Cross Country Course at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational. 44 teams across multiple divisions competed in the men's 8K race and 45 in the women's 5K race.
The Bears men's team finished 2nd in their race with 103 points, while the women's team was first in their race with 39 points.
Boston University dominated the men's race, scoring 22 points. Brown was the best of the rest, as their top five runners all finished inside the top 40. Sophomore John Ryan led the way, finishing sixth with a time of 25:10.32. Sebastian Margetts (17th/25:24.81), Sam Colton (20th/25:28.06), John Farrell (25th/25:34.81) and Justin Hickey (38th/25:50.01) rounded out the point scorers.
In the women's race, Brown narrowly out-dueled Northeastern (44 pts.) for the top spot. Junior Emily Mrakovcic was the Bear's top runner, finishing second overall with a time of 17:34.27. Olivia Fraga (3rd/17:35.06) followed just behind and Isolde McManus (9th/17:53.31) was the third Brown runner to finish in the top 10. Morgan Boonshaft (14th/17:59.40) and Nimrit Ahuja (14th/18:07.75) round out the top five for Brown.
A strong showing for Brown will provide them confidence heading into their next race on Saturday, October 5 in Bethlehem, Pa. for the Paul Short Run.
