Women’s Hockey Alum Shay Maloney Selected by Boston in PWHL Draft

ST. PAUL, Minn. – A former Brown women's hockey standout is headed to the PWHL after being drafted on Monday evening.
Shay Maloney, a 2022 Brown graduate and team captain was selected in the sixth round (34th overall) by Boston. She is the first Browne alumnae to be drafted into the PWHL, which played its inaugural season this past winter/spring.
A forward originally from McHenry, Illinois, Maloney spent four seasons with the Bears from 2018-22. She spent the 2022-23 season playing as a graduate transfer at Quinnipiac where she tallied 15 goals and 16 assists while playing on the Bobcats' top line. After the conclusion of her collegiate career, she signed professionally with Leksand IF of the Swedish Women's Hockey League (SDHL), where she played this past season.
As a member of the Bears, Maloney finished her career in Providence with 24 goals and 25 assists and was named the team's most valuable player in all three of her seasons (the 2020-21 season was canceled due to the pandemic). She posted career-highs of 11 goals and 19 points during her senior season in 2021-22 to lead the team and earned Honorable Mention All-Ivy accolades.
