PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Brown University Chancellor Samuel M. Mencoff '78 Vice President for Athletics and Recreation M. Grace Calhoun '92, Ph.D. has announced plans to enhance Brown's varsity men's and women's water polo programs.
"We are excited to share this restructure of our water polo staff and for the continued leadership of Felix and JJ," Calhoun said. "This reorganization will advance our broader goals for both programs, increase our competitiveness on the national level, and have a significant impact on the experience of all of our water polo student-athletes."
As a part of this restructure, Head Coaching Chair for Water Polo Felix Mercado has been elevated to Director of Water Polo and will remain Head Coach of the men's team. JJ Addison has been promoted to Head Coach of the women's team.
"I would like to thank Dr. Calhoun and Felix Mercado for this exciting opportunity," Addison said. "I believe this realignment will help each coach on staff maximize their potential, which will advance both Brown Water Polo Programs."
In addition to serving as Men's Head Coach, Mercado will continue to work closely with the women's program as Director of Water Polo. Britt Connell will continue to hold the Keck Family Assistant Coach Position for women's water polo. The men's program will add a new assistant coach position. Petar Momcilovic recently joined the staff as an assistant coach for both programs, with a focus on operations and player development.
"I am thrilled for the opportunity to continue leading the Brown Water Polo programs," Mercado said. "Both our men and women's programs are extremely talented and competitive. They deserve to be set up for the best chance for success, led by their own head coach, solely focused on their training and development year-round. We are privileged to have an incredible team of highly qualified, experienced, and dedicated coaches working together to continue building successful student-athletes in and out of the water."
