JJ Addison was named Head Coach of the Brown women's water polo program in may of 2024 having served on staff for both the men's and women's water polo programs at Brown since 2016-17
Addison, the former head men’s and women’s water polo coach at Connecticut College, served as the operations assistant/position coach with the Brown women’s water polo team while also serving as the top assistant coach with the Bears’ men’s program.
Brown opened the 2020 season with an impressive 12-2 record and had entered the national rankings at No. 25 before the remainder of its season was canceled due to novel coronavirus (COVID-19). The Bears’ 2021 competitive season was canceled due to COVID-19.
In 2019, Brown tallied a 21-13 record for its fourth 20-win season in the last six years and seventh 20-win campaign under head coach Felix Mercado. Addison helped guide Carissa Perez ’21 to ACWPC All-America accolades and McKenna Miller ’19 to First Team All-CWPA honors.
Addison helped lead the Bears to a national ranking of No. 24 in the final CWPA poll for the 2018 season. He mentored a pair of ACWPC All-Americans in Marisol Dakan ’18 and Jessica Heilman ’18 with Dakan concluding her career as Brown’s all-time leader in saves with 1,131 career stops.
During the 2017 season, Brown posted a 21-10 record, marking the Bears’ seventh winning year and sixth 20-win campaign during the Felix Mercado era. Addison mentored Marisa Kolokotronis ’17 who earned Second Team All-CWPA and First Team All-CWPA Tournament accolades.
As a volunteer assistant coach with the Bears’ men’s program in 2016-17, he helped Brown win its third straight regular season conference title and coached NWPC Player of the Year Luke Weiser ’17. In 2017, the Bears posted their eighth straight 20-win season.
Addison served as the head coach at Conn. College from February 2003 to April 2014, winning a pair of CWPA Division III Women’s Championships in 2013 and 2014. He coached eight All-Americans and 28 All-Academic selections while earning CWPA Division III Coach of the Year honors in 2007, 2010, and 2013.
He kept the program in the top 10 in the nation academically for 10 years, finishing as the No. 1 academic program in the nation three times. While at Conn. College, Addison also worked as the Aquatics Director at Middlesex YMCA from 2006-09.
A 2001 graduate of the University of Colorado Boulder, Addison earned All-America honors as a collegiate water polo player. He competed at the University of Southern California from 1996-98, winning an NCAA Championship with the Trojans in 1998.
