Women's Crew Starts Strong at NCAA Championship

BETHEL, Ohio – The Brown Bears advanced all three crews to the A/B Semifinals in the opening heats of the NCAA Championship on Friday at East Fork/Harsha Lake.
"We had a good session of racing today at the NCAA Championship," said head coach John Murphy. "The goal was to get all three boats out of the heats and into the A/B semifinals and that goal was accomplished.
"We are looking forward to taking the lessons learned today and using them to go faster tomorrow morning in the semis."
The Varsity 8 opened the morning races with a second-place finish to advance to the A/B Semifinals. The Bears (6:55.057) jumped to an early lead over top-seeded Texas and Syracuse, but the Longhorns (6:48.628) ended in first with the Orange (7:02.010) taking third.
The Bears race at 9:48 a.m. in tomorrow's semifinal against Ohio State, Penn, Princeton, Texas, and Yale.
The Second Varsity 8 reached the A/B Semifinal with a third-place finish in its heat with a time of 7:00.842. The Bears finished behind Ivy League rival Yale (6:55.166) and Ohio State (6:58.697).
The Bears race at 10:36 a.m. tomorrow in the semifinal against Cal, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Yale.
Brown's Varsity 4 charged ahead of Rutgers and Virginia in the back half of the 2,000-meter race to finish second with a time of 7:50.616 and advance to tomorrow's A/B Semifinal. The Bears advanced with first-place Yale (7:41.231) and third-place Rutgers (7:52.854).
Brown races at 11:24 a.m. in tomorrow's semifinal against Cal, Penn, Princeton, Syracuse, and Texas.
