Women's Sailing Finishes Fifth at ICSA Fleet Race National Championship

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.- The Brown University women's sailing team competed in the ICSA Women's Fleet Race National Championship hosted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University over the past four days. The Bears had a fifth place finish out of 18 teams.

The Eastern and Western semifinals took place within the first two days of competition from May 20-21. The Bears finished fifth in the Eastern semifinal after two days of sailing, helping them advance to the finals. The following schools placed within the top nine of the Eastern semifinal, sending them to the finals: Stanford, Cornell, Penn, U.S. Naval Academy, North Carolina State, Charleston, George Washington, and Roger Williams University. In the Western semifinals Yale, Boston College, Harvard, Dartmouth, Bowdoin, MIT, Northeastern, Georgetown, and Tulane advanced to the finals.

The finals ran from May 22-23 with the Bears earning another fifth place finish. Stanford finished first in the event, followed by Boston College, Dartmouth, Yale, and Brown rounding out the top five. Sierra Bornehim, Charlotte Costikyan, Katharine Doble, Francesca Edmands, Kaitlyn Hamilton, Laura Hamilton, Menasha Leport, Katherine Majette, Katherine McNamara, Sidney Moyer, Brianna Ross, Lily Shore, Brielle Willoughby, and Savannah Young represented Brown at the competition.

The Bears will now focus on the ICSA Open Fleet Race National Championship. The semifinals will take place on May 24-25, with the finals running from May 26-27.
