Paul Cooke '89 Named Ivy League Coach of the Year; Varsity 8 Named First Team All-Ivy

PRINCETON, N.J. – Following Brown's Eastern Sprints title, Head Coach Paul Cooke '89 was unanimously selected as the Ivy League Coach of the Year. The conference announced the year-end awards on Thursday.
In addition to Cooke's Coach of the Year Award, Ian Burnett earned Academic All-Ivy honors and the Varsity 8 picked up First Team All-Ivy honors with the first-place finish at the Sprints.
It marks Cooke's second Ivy League Coach of the Year title in the last three seasons after picking up the honor in 2022.
Brown's victory at the Sprints vaulted them to the #2 ranking in the final IRCA/IRA Varsity 8 Poll. The Bears picked up two first-place votes and sit behind only Washington.
Brown's Varsity 8 captured its first gold since 2012 and eighth victory in program history at the 2024 Eastern Sprints. With the win, the nine-man crew earns First Team All-Ivy honors.
Connor Brown, David Person, Oliver Page-Kuhr, Gabriel Mahler, Enno Mönch, Nathan Swidler, Ian Burnett, Willem Stoop, Jack DiGiovanni all pick up the conference honors. DiGiovanni is the lone Bear from the 2022 Varsity 8 that earned Second Team All-Ivy honors.
To close out the awards, senior Ian Burnett picked up Academic All-Ivy honors. The Computer Science – Economics concentrator is a two-time IRCA Scholar-Athlete and was a First Team All-American in 2023.
The Bears will compete in the 121st IRA Championship on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, New Jersey beginning on Friday, May 31 and continuing through Sunday, June 2.
