PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown baseball team dropped a home midweek matchup to Rhode Island by a score of 5-2 on Tuesday afternoon at Attanasio Family Field at Murray Stadium.
Mark Henshon and Gunner Boree each had a walk and run scored, as Henshon extended his on-base streak to 19 games. Nathan Brasher also drew a walk to extend his on-base streak to 11 games. Brady Dever reached base twice with a walk and a single.
Starting pitcher Christian Keel struck out four in a row at one point as he held the Rams hitless through the first three innings. After the Bears stranded two runners on base following their first two hits in the bottom of the third, Rhody grabbed a 2-0 lead with their first two hits in the fourth, including a two-run homer by Anthony Depino.
Rhody tacked on an insurance run in the fifth with the help of three walks and a sac fly to make it a 3-0 game. Brown took advantage of five walks in the bottom of the inning to pick up two runs and pull within 3-2 after six innings.
After a pair of walks and a sac bunt in the seventh, the Rams padded the lead with a big two-out, two-strike single to make it a 5-2 game and held on as Rhody pitching retired the final 10 Brown hitters of the game to secure the win.
The Bears will head north this weekend for a three-game Ivy League series at Dartmouth, starting on Saturday morning with a doubleheader beginning at 11:30 a.m.
