Women's Rugby Heads to CRC National 7s to Defend Title

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown Bears head to the 2024 CRC National 7s to close out the spring slate on Saturday and Sunday at the Maryland Sportsplex outside of Washington, D.C.
Brown defends its 2023 title in the Women's Premier Division with an opening round matchup against the Minnesota Golden Gophers on Saturday at 9:50 a.m.

- The Bears compete on Saturday and Sunday at the CRC 7s and matches will stream on The Rugby Network.

- Brown enters the weekend with a 16-8 overall record in 2023-24 and a 12-5 record in 7s this spring.
- This spring, Brown finished fourth at the Tropical 7s, second at the Crimson 7s, and third at the Ivy 7s. Notably, Brown took a 12-7 win over Harvard at the Ivy 7s for the program's first win over the Crimson in nine years.
- 14 Bears have recorded a try this spring with Kate Muldoon (9), Morgan Cunningham (8), and Lily Nowak (8) leading the squad. MA Sorensen Award finalist Akilah Cathey has five tries and Sorensen Award nominee Nikki Lynch has seven.
- In the kicking game, Julia Murray has 30 conversions this spring and leads the team with 75 points.
- "The team has really played in some competitive matches leading up to this weekend so we're really excited to see how it all plays out," said Rosalind Chou, the Kathleen Flores Women's Rugby Head Coach. "We have built up some depth and are confident in all fifteen student-athletes traveling down to D.C. to represent Brown"
- "The field is more competitive than ever this year, so we know it will be a challenge to get back into the championship final. The team is peaking right now so we hope that produces some positive results."
- Brown is the top seed in the women's premier division and will take on Minnesota at 9:50 a.m. on Saturday. With a win, Brown will take on the winner of the West Chester and Southern Nazarene match at 2:03 p.m.
- Army is the top seed in the East bracket. The Bears beat Army in last year's Championship game.
- Brown captured three consecutive shutout wins over Kutztown, Northern Iowa, and Navy last year to reach the CRC Championship game.
- In the final, Brown edged out Army, 21-19, erasing a 14-7 deficit in the second half with tries from Lynch and Mahdia Parker '23 and a pair of conversions from Murray.
