WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Brown Bears cruised past Minnesota and West Chester to earn a spot in tomorrow's semifinal round against Navy at 11 a.m.
"The team continues to improve every match, building on the previous contest," said Rosalind Chou, the Kathleen Flores Women's Rugby Head Coach. "We saw some fireworks from our bench in both matches with 2nd half surges, showing our depth. We have to win the recovery battle and are excited to compete in the semifinal tomorrow.
"Outstanding off the bench today were Nikki Lynch and Noelle Lewis, but everyone really stepped up to have two complete matches today."
Brown opened its title defense against the Minnesota Golden Gophers and took a 10-0 halftime lead behind tries from Lily Nowak and Aziza Alford. The Golden Gophers responded to start the second half and cut Brown's lead to five, but from there it was all Bears.
Nikki Lynch touched down twice while Jordan Wiseman and Kate Muldoon each added a try to push the final to 34-5.
Brown finished the day against West Chester and advanced to tomorrow's semifinal with a dominating 41-0 victory. Noelle Lewis led the Bears with three tries, all in the second half. Murray had three conversions and a try against the Rams.
Brown takes on Navy in tomorrow's semifinal with both teams looking to reach the 5:30 p.m. Championship game. Army and AIC square off in the other semifinal tomorrow morning.
