CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Brown Bears beat Harvard and Princeton twice to collect three wins and finish third at the 2024 Ivy 7s at Mignone Field Saturday.
"We are so proud of the squad going 3-1 today and playing some great 7s," said Rosalind Chou, the Kathleen Flores Women's Rugby Head Coach. "They were locked in against Harvard and executed the game plan almost flawlessly. Kate Muldoon and Morgan Cunningham were incredible today.
"There were some impressive efforts on defense from Jordan Wiseman and Ashley Amparo. We look to continue this momentum into nationals next weekend."
The Bears opened the day against the Crimson and brought an inspired performance to hand Harvard its first 7s loss of the spring. Kate Muldoon broke the deadlock early with her first try of the day for a 5-0 Bruno lead.
After Harvard touched down and hit the conversion for a 7-5 lead, Morgan Cunningham broke through at the end of the first half and Julia Murray was good on the conversion to give Bruno a 12-7 halftime lead.
The Bears held off the Crimson throughout the second half with Nikki Lynch stripping a Crimson attacker of the ball near the try line late in the half. It marked Brown's first win over Harvard in nine years.
The Big Green tallied an early try and another as the first half expired to take a 12-0 lead at the break. Dartmouth added a pair of late tries in the second half to push the final score to 24-0.
Akilah Cathey struck halfway through the opening half against Princeton to give the Bears a 5-0 lead over the Tigers. Nikki Lynch touched down and Murray added the conversion to make it 12-0 Bears at the half. Muldoon added her second try of the game before Princeton added a try and conversion to push the final to 17-7.
Following a three-team tie, the Bears drew a rematch with the Tigers in the third-place game in the evening at Mignone Field. Lily Nowak made it 10-5 Bears at the tail-end of the first half before the Bears blew the game open in the second half with four tries and three conversions to take a 36-5 victory.
The Bears defend their title at the 2024 CRC 7s next weekend in Washington, D.C. Brown will compete on Saturday, April 27 and Sunday, April 28.
