Women's Tennis Rolls on Saturday Against Fordham

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Brown women's tennis came away with a 5-2 victory against Fordham on Saturday afternoon at the Pizzitola Sports Center in the second of four-straight home matches.
The Bears took care of doubles with sophomore Phoebe Peus and Lindsey Hofflander (6-1) taking care of business, as well as senior Ali Benedetto and Addison Ahlstrom (6-4), and senior Nora Lee and freshman Dani Ben-Abraham (6-4).
"As expected, today's match against Fordham was extremely competitive and exciting," said Head Coach Lucie Schmidhauser. "In doubles, Lindsey and Phoebe played flawless doubles at line one with a great combination of aggressive play and consistency when needed. Ali and Addie's match had a few momentum shifts, but they were able to stay calm and aggressive in important moments close out the doubles point."
Peus won first singles (6-4, 6-4), Benedetto took second singles in three sets (6-4, 5-7, 6-4), Ahlstrom won fifth singles in a hard-fought match (6-3, 4-6, 10-7), and freshman Anne Yang secured sixth singles (6-0, 6-1).
"In singles, almost every match was extremely competitive," said Schmidhauser. "It is important to have these types of matches for our players to become more resilient and be willing to do what it takes to close out matches that are closely contested. Phoebe competed very well, used her weapon serve and was able to overcome some late-match unforced errors to close out her match at line one in two sets. Ali battled hard in her three-set win against a quality opponent, displaying her trademark all-court game full of variety and net play. Anne played with precision, courage and clarity at line five, clinching the match for our team calmly and methodically. Addie played a very solid match, attacking the net and using her speed and athleticism to frustrate her opponent."
