Women's Tennis Sweeps St. Johns on Sunday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Brown women's tennis completed its three-team weekend sweep on Sunday by defeating St. Johns, 4-0, at the Pizzitola Sports Center.

The Bears improve to 7-5 overall and 5-0 on their home courts.

The teams played two doubles matches with senior Ali Benedetto and junior Addison Ahlstrom winning first doubles (4-3), and senior Nora Lee and freshman Dani Ben-Abraham taking second doubles (6-0).

In singles, sophomore Phoebe Peus secured first singles (6-0, 6-4), junior Gabby Soliman took second singles (6-4, 6-4), and freshman Hannah Shen won by forfeit at sixth singles.

Senior Olivia Mariotti played an exhibition at fifth singles and came away with an 8-5 victory.

"Nora and Dani played focused and aggressive doubles at line two giving our team the doubles point as St. John's had to default their line three doubles," said Head Coach Lucie Schmidhauser. "In singles, Phoebe played with patience, playing an incredibly disciplined first set. She went down quickly in the second set, but found a way to bounce back, reduced her errors and closed out the match with confidence. Gabby overcame early match nerves to win in close two sets, making her opponent work for every point. Dani and Nora were both on the right track to putting themselves in the position to win their matches when we clinched the match. Olivia competed really well in her 8-5 pro set win in the exhibition match."
