Sophomore DJ Dillehay went 4-for-6 with two runs and three RBIs. Junior Nathan Brasher scored twice while going 4-for-5 at the plate, sophomore Mark Henshon scored four runs and reached base four times via two hits and two walks. Senior Reece Rappoli tallied three hits and sophomore Mika Petersen had three hits and three RBIs.
On the mound, junior Jack Seppings picked up his first win of the season after allowing three runs (two earned) runs on four hits over 5.0 innings while striking out a career-high eight.
Brown struck right out of the gate in the first. Henshon hustled out a double down the right field line and went to third on a single by Dillehay before scoring on an RBI groundout by Brady Dever for the early 1-0 lead.
The Wildcats took advantage of a series of Brown mistakes to plate three runs, two earned, in the third including a pair of hit by pitches, an RBI triple and a dropped fly ball on a sac fly.
Brown responded with a big six-run fifth inning to take control with a 7-3 lead. After loading the bases with nobody out, Charles Crawford plated Rappoli with a sac fly, and Petersen put the Bears in front by dropping a two-run single into the left field corner. Petersen then swiped second and came to score on a single up the middle by Henshon to make it 5-4. Two batters later, Dever lined a sac fly to right field, and Dillehay came into score on a throwing error to round out the scoring.
Davidson attacked the Brown bullpen for three runs on five hits in the bottom of the seventh to get within one. Four consecutive hits, all after two outs, including a two-run home homer cut it to 7-6 and the Wildcats put the tying runner into scoring position before a strikeout ended the inning.
Brown answered immediately in the eighth with its biggest inning of the season, scoring seven runs on five hits and sending 12 men to the plate to hold a 14-6 lead, scoring all seven runs before the first out was recorded. After a throwing error scored the first run, Petersen drove an RBI double down the right field line for another run. Dillehay added an RBI single later in the inning, and Gunner Boree added two more to the ledger with a two-run single up the middle.
Davidson got one run back in the eighth before Dillehay drove in two more runs with a ninth inning triple into the right field corner to make it 16-7. Davidson put up six runs in the ninth inning to pull within three, with all six runs scoring when the Wildcats were down to their final strike.
