Bears Begin Spring Season With Strong Start

PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Brown Bears competed in a total of three events this weekend as they opened up their spring season.

The #4 ranked Bears competed in the McMerrick Cup Team Race at Roger Williams University. The team went undefeated in the event with an 8-0 record on Saturday, and 5-0 on Sunday. This put the team in first place to secure the McMerrick Cup. Blake Behrens, Sierra Bornheim, Laura Hamilton, Corinne Harrison,Talia Levine, Janelle Li, Connor Macken, and Ethan Simpson carried the Bears to victory.

Brown's co-ed team also competed in the Sharpe Trophy Team Race at home. The Bears had two teams in the event. The first team of Vera Allen, Guthrie Braun, Emily Mueller, Connor Nelson, Liam O'Keefe, and Savannah Young finished the event with a 9-5 record putting them in third place out of eight teams. The second team of Leyton Borcherding, Caroline Keeffe-Jones, Olivia Miller, Catherine Morrissette, Camren Spriggs, and Mason Stang finished with a 3-11 record putting them in seventh place.

The #3 ranked women's team competed in the Harvard Women's Team Race finishing in third place out of nine teams after losing a tiebreaker for second place. The Bears finished with a 5-2 record in the event. Charlotte Costikyan, Katharine Doble, Francesca Edmands, Kaitlyn Hamilton, Katherine Majette, Katherine McNamara, Brianna Ross, Lily Shore, and Brielle Willoughby represented Brown in the event.

The Bears will be back in action as they compete in four events this weekend.
