Women's Tennis Takes Down Tough BU Team on the Road
3/3/2024 5:34:00 PM | Women's Tennis
MANCHESTER, Mass. -Â Brown women's tennis halted a four-match losing streak with a 5-2 victory at Boston University on Sunday afternoon at the Manchester Athletic Club. It was the first win over the Terriers in four years.
The Bears took the doubles point with two convincing wins. The 28th-ranked duo of junior Lindsey Hofflander and sophomore Phoebe Peus took first doubles (6-2), and Junior Addison Ahlstrom and senior Ali Benedetto secured second doubles (6-2).
"We came out with clarity and aggression in doubles," said Head Coach Lucie Schmidhauser. "Ali and Addie played their best match of the season in their 6-2 win and Phoebe and Lindsey clinched the doubles point against a tricky all left-handed duo at line one."
Brown won four singles matches. Peus took first singles (6-3, 6-3), Dani Ben-Abraham secured fifth singles in a tiebreaker (4-6, 6-3, 7-5), Anna Yang won sixth singles (5-1 Ret.), and Gabby Soliman clinched the match at third singles (7-5, 7-5).
"In singles, Phoebe played a disciplined match from start to finish, keeping her opponent uncomfortable the entire match," said Schmidhauser. "Gabby's opponent made her fight for every point to close out an emotionally charged match and clinch the match for our team. Dani kept battling in her match and showed a lot of grit after losing the first set, then turning the match around and finishing with an excellent tiebreaker performance. It was a positive day for our team as we are starting the second half of our season."
